Inviting a whole industry to learn alternative.
Do students really want university education any more? Or is the idea of doing something for real more attractive for them? This new brand for Academy of Live Technology (ALT) aimed to position the institution as an antidote to these questions. And the results have seen a 17% rise in applications and half a million views on TikTok.
Central to the direction was the learning that We found many applicants weren’t considering university – often talented, neurodiverse young people who felt it wasn’t built for them. They weren’t seeking tradition but something real: an education inside the industry, using the tools and tech they’d need from day one. They were ready for an alternative.
That led to the new name: Academy of Live Technology, or ALT. Born from a simple idea – to offer something different, more tailored to the right students and more connected to the future they wanted.
The design direction for ALT built on this idea of 'alternativeness'. Our ethos –'less education, more industry' – shaped refreshed image and film art direction, a design language that felt more tech than uni, and a confident tone of voice that stood out.
The digital experience elevates itself above other university offerings and positions far more comfortably alongside the profession – we knew that students at ALT love their tech, so we designed a site which feels at home in that category.
