Now this year’s big freeze is over let’s talk about Melt:ed, short Melt Education, little brother to Melt, a company that helps business develop innovative content for new and emerging media platforms. The Melt:ed scheme is all about encouraging 14-19 year olds with bright ideas for online media content and apps to explore and exploit those ideas through the curriculum and with the help of industry professionals. We were asked by the Culture Company to create a brand identity, campaign theme ‘unfreeze your brain’ and supporting messages for Melt:ed working in collaboration with e-learning specialists Desq. The marque, a frozen brain, inside a frozen head, inside a block of ice, illustrates the campaign message and ties in with the Melt name, and refers to the pictographic style of science and technology exercise books. Once the ice melts and the brain thaws a burst of frontal lobe consciousness prevails!! curtosy of illustrator Chris Gray. More to come on this project so watch this space.

Social networking for social change…that’s something you’ll be hearing more and more as entrepreneurs, small and big businesses look at how they can use technology to help people. Advocates of this online social movement, Andymayer.net, asked us to help develop their brand to align their company with these values. We thought, every connection starts small, from two, then it grows and evolves into something big, big enough to make change. At the heart of all those connections are people, and it’s those human connections that have the power and influence to make social change. We developed the name yoomee, their messaging and brand expression, and created an informal, signature style hand drawn marque, reflecting the emphasis of yoomee’s work on people over technology. Now we’re watching to see just how big they can make it…

Our website has been live for a year now so we felt it was a good time to do a bit of spring cleaning (despite it being winter). We’ve made a few modifications (as regular visitors might notice) as well as adding a brand spanking new page showcasing our digital media work! Much more to come in the new year.

Our friends down at Yorkshire Artspace have an Open Studios event on this weekend. We’ve designed all the bits and pieces for it with a distinctly pink theme. Idea being two fold: 1. This year they’ve got a van parking up in Persistence Works housing a ‘sweet making performance’ by Sweet Theatre (hence candy pink) and 2. They wanted something distinctive but didn’t have a huge budget, meaning printing was limited to one or two colours. One or two colours always printed onto pink gives it all a nice coherent feel. Even the internal signage is printed in house onto pink paper (7 quid for 500 sheets from Staples… other stationers are available).
It was a real local arts affair, with Archipelago just down the road screen printing some of the brightest posters you’ll ever seen in your life. Find out more about Open Studios on the Yorkshire Artspace site…

Wow! What can I say possibly our most difficult and demanding client – he’s more than happy with that title believe it or not. Duncan is a photographer and we’ve been working on his identity and forthcoming website for the last 6 years (6 months really). He’s a top bloke and even lets us borrow his Alpha Spyder from time to time. Duncan Raban photography coming soon…We hope.

Sorry for the long protracted delay of P&P announcements! Needless to say we have a lot of catching up to do as we have been working non-stop over the last few months hense the influx of new posts!, no excuse we know!. First things first we’ll start with the bragging rights. Last week we attended the ISTD 2009 awards, the only international award of it’s kind to judge the work based purely on typographical excellence. We were over the moon to receive 4 awards for: Jefferson Sheard, Osmosis, U&I and electricworks. Well worth the gruelling 3 1/2 hour last train to sheffield!
