Sheffield Design Awards 2010

This year (along with RIBA; Sheffield Civic Trust; Creative Sheffield and ARUP) Peter and Paul are sponsoring the Sheffield Design Awards which is held biannually to award the best new pieces of architecture in our city. As sponsors, we’re designing their identity aswell as everything else they’ll need to get people excited about the event.

The award has two strands: There are various industry awards judged by a respected panel and a ‘Peoples’ award in which YOU vote for YOUR favourite new Sheffield building! No coalition this time. An outright WINNER will be announced at the event in February 2011. In the meantime we’ll be producing all the marketing materials to get you thinking aswell as an online space to register your vote. Keep checking back for updates as we start the election campaign rolling…

End of show

For any student graduating in 2010, the last few weeks have probably been a particularly intense and anxious time, and especially for those studying in the creative disciplines. With work to mount, shows to hang, and portfolios to organise, the final weeks of the course are without doubt the most demanding. For Kraig Wilson, a friend of mine, graduating from the hallowed halls of the Royal Academy this summer marks the end of over eight years dedicated study of Fine Art. When Kraig asked us to design his graduation show catalogue we were both pleased and honoured to help out, if only to alleviate his workload a little. Working with a triptych of  Kraig’s beautiful photographic images and text written by Artist and Researcher Owen Parry, the final piece was both sympathetic to the classical qualities and aesthetics referenced in his work whilst, in contrast, articulating the modernity and directness of Kraig’s character and approach to his practice.

Robert Casselton Clark

It’s been a while since we last posted something about Yorkshire Artspace, so now seems as good a time as any.

As part of the new identity work we did for them we’ve just produced some printed materials which help them talk about all the different things they offer in a nicely sewn up and consistent manor. The first was for their most recent resident artist: Robert Casselton Clark. He’d been producing these small sculptural creatures called ‘stookies’ in the months he was residing in Persistence Works (Yorkshire Artspace HQ) and they eventually were exhibited as a large public art piece on the side of the building (see the above image). We produced the piece of print which documented his time there, along with some other pieces including a brilliant little metal embossing machine which looks like it’s from the 1920′s…

GOSH

Seems my opening gambit is always an apology when writing a post regarding the length of time since my last one. They’ll be more to follow soon with updates of our recent activity, PROMISE!!. We make no apologies however for spreading the word about a recent article in the latest Sunday Times magazine recounting a collection of stories from some of the children in Great Ormond Street, documented over 4 years by our client, and friend Duncan Raban, the collection of pictures gives a very emotional, moving and real account of the everyday children and families that deal with the trauma of their child’s illnesses, and the enduring doctors and nurses that give them support & hope though transplants, treatments, smiles & laughter. If you missed sundays paper you can check times online. You can also view the pictures on duncan’s site which we posted live this week.
